The consequences of the British Civil War
The British/English Civil war was between the Royalists (Roundheads) and the parliament. Charles was against the parliament and he wanted to have his own rules and laws which was a main reason why the war began. The first success of war, was the victory of Oliver Cromwell in the battle of Naseby. The second war was the defeat of king Charles and his son. Lastly, Cromwell conquered the English forces and ended the wars. There were not only successes of this war, but also failures. Charles failed to defeat the parliament and the second time he tried, he surrendered. He was put on trial and later was executed along with his son. During the war, there were many changed in the government. Since Charles was going against the government, there was a disagreement with the role of the monarchy; the monarchy was changed for the government. Because of all of the wars and problems, there are several historical significance of the events. Oliver Cromwell’s actions changed the political landscape forever. The parliament made the foundations for the modern monarchy government today; there is still an argument between the Irish border and England’s relationship with Scotland. If this civil war did not take place then the government would be running differently in England and there would be a different monarchy. There were some changes that occurred during the war that we still are seeing today, for example, it helped democracy which began after the parliament won the war and gave people freedom with arbitrary. There were effects on other countries like Europe. The civil war also affected other countries. Because of this war, many other civil war started in Europe.
