Oliver Cromwell became a member of the parliament and served in the short and long parliament. During the civil war, he became a military commander and he was know for the ability to lead and have strict, harsh authority. Oliver Cromwell also fought in the battle of Naseby in the defeat of the Royalist (Roundhead) army. After, the victory of the roundheads, he became lieutenant general of cavalry for the new army. He later defeated the Scots who invaded England for King Charles. He then started a campaign against the Irish that began in 1641.
